This month’s recommendations for Wild Animal books:
How It Was With Dooms
This book is a true story about a family and their pet cheetah!
Humphrey the Lost Whale
This illustrated book tells the tale of a lost whale that swam into the San Francisco bay and how people helped save him.
Eyewitness: Elephant
All of the Eyewitness books are popular in the public library here in Santa Cruz. The books are packed full of information, but still easy to understand by school age children. The photos are great. Eyewitness books are a good reference for reports.
The Koala Book
In honor of our animal story of the month, here is a great book featuring everything you want to know about koalas. Don’t be fooled- these furry creatures from down under are not bears.
Saving the Giant Panda
This is a beautiful coffee table style book that kids and grownups will enjoy. I visited the San Diego Zoo this summer and was surprised to learn how very difficult it is getting pandas to breed in captivity. This is unfortunate, since there are few giant pandas left in the wild. This book gives information on the giant panda and the efforts being made to save it.
African Wildlife
For those of you who have been on safari, African Wildlife will be like revisiting your trip. For those of you who have never been on safari, this book gives you the opportunity to go without ever leaving home. Both kids and grownups will like this book.
